The Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested one Abdullahi Berter, a Malian citizen resident in Nigeria and rescued 40 Illegal Malian Immigrants including one Ivory Coast who were transported from Mali by human traffickers.
The victims were allegedly lured the victims under pretext of securing a job opportunities for them in France.
The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police CP Shetima Mohammed Jauro, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Lafia, the capital city of the state.
He said that the victims who were 32 males and 7 females were rescued at Orange Market Mararaba, in Karu local government area of the state in an apartment under an instruction to invite more persons into Nigeria for an undisclosed operation.
He said:”All rescued victims will formally handed over to the Nigeria immigration Service for further investigation and necessary action in line with law.”
One kidnapper suspect identified as Abubakar Adamu of Adudu district Awe local government area of Nasarawa State, has also been arrested with firearm.
He added that the suspect was arrested at his Ruga in Adudu where a search was conducted and the following items were recovered: one AK-47 rifle, two magazine and eleven rounds of live ammunition
