Police Raid Armed Secessionist Cell In Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command have arrested an armed suspected member of a proscribed secessionist group in Ihiala area of the state.

Identified as Friday Nnamdi Anyikame, 25, the suspect was apprehended during a swift, intelligence-driven dawn operation on November 20, 2025, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu.

 Police recovered two pump-action rifles and 29 live cartridges from him at the point of arrest.

Anyikame confessed during interrogation that he is an active member of an armed criminal group and operates from a camp located within Ogbaru Local Government Area,the Command said.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, praised the operatives for their proactive response and ordered the immediate escalation of surveillance operations and targeted raids across the state. He assured residents that the Command is closing in on other fleeing members of the gang and remains committed to dismantling their criminal network.

He urged citizens of Anambra to stay vigilant and continue to provide timely and actionable information that will support ongoing security efforts.
