The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman (North East) ), Comrade Mustapha Salihu, PhD (Sa’in Adamawa), has underscored the urgent need for strengthened community security and responsible corporate engagement as pillars for Nigeria’s sustainable development.
Dr. Salihu, who is also the Chairman of the Governing Boards of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP)delivered the keynote address at a one-day symposium organised by the Pan African Development Network on Wednesday, at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja.
He spoke on the theme, “Community Security and Corporate Social Responsibility: Pathways to Sustainable Development in Nigeria”
He emphasised that community-driven security initiatives, when complemented by active corporate contributions, can significantly boost national stability, economic growth, and social cohesion.
He noted that the evolving nature of security challenges demands collaborative responses from government, businesses, civil society, and local communities. According to him, sustainable development can only thrive where peace and mutual trust exist.
The symposium attracted policymakers, development experts, security practitioners, civil society organisations, and representatives of the private sector, all of whom shared perspectives on strengthening Nigeria’s development architecture.
Organisers of the event lauded Dr. Salihu for what they described as an insightful and forward-looking presentation, noting that his contribution would serve as a key input toward advancing national conversations on inclusive security and development.
The event concluded with a call for multi-stakeholder partnerships to reinforce community resilience and ensure that corporate organisations play more strategic roles in nation-building.
