The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has shed more lights on his recent clash with a naval officer identified as A. Yerima, over alleged land grabbing
He explained that his earlier remarks were taken out of context, emphasizing that he was only advocating for lawful conduct and adherence to constitutional principles by all security operatives.
Clarifying this on Thursday in Abuja, Wike stated: “What I said was simple no officer or individual should carry out an illegal order. If an instruction is unlawful, you have the right to say no. That does not mean I have a problem with the military,” Wike clarified.
He reaffirmed deep respect for the Armed Forces, noting that his administration has remained steadfast in supporting military operations within the FCT and across Nigeria.
He added:“Let me make it clear I do not have any problem with the military and will never have. I have great respect for the institution and for the sacrifices they make to keep our nation safe,” he said.
He reiterated support for security agencies through logistics and infrastructure development, stressing that the military remains a key partner in maintaining peace and stability in the nation’s capital.
“As FCT Minister, I have continued to provide support to the military in their operations. Anyone saying otherwise is simply not telling the truth,” he stated.
Wike also implored journalists to uphold professionalism and accuracy in their reportage, warning against sensationalism and misrepresentation of facts.
“I want journalists to always verify facts and report accurately. Do not cut or misquote statements to suit headlines. Let us focus on what builds our country,” he urged.
