The Federal Government has not removed subsidies or increased the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in the country.
Matilda Johnson, Brands and Corporate Communications Manager for the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG), gave the clarification in a statement on Thursday against the backdrop of recent reports claiming increase in the prices of gas.
According to the statement, pricing matters are handled by relevant regulatory agencies, and no government policy has been issued to alter CNG pump prices.
It explained that the initiative, under the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains focused on promoting CNG as a cheaper, cleaner, and more sustainable alternative to Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel across Nigeria.
It emphasized the significant progress in the CNG mobility market, driven by collaboration with government agencies.
It added that the sector has attracted nearly $1 billion in private sector investments, reflecting strong confidence in its potential.
It noted that recent pump price adjustments by some operators were independent private-sector decisions, not influenced by any government directive.
It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring CNG remains significantly more affordable than PMS and diesel.
