ExxonMobil Invests ₦9 Billion In Geoscience Education In Nigeria

Over the last two decades, ExxonMobil Upstream affiliates have invested more than ₦9 billion in geoscience education through the University Assistance Program (UAP) and the University Partnering Program (UPP) in Nigeria,said Jagir Baxi, Chairman and Managing Director of ExxonMobil affiliates in Nigeria.

He explained that these initiatives have enhanced teaching quality, upgraded infrastructure, and provided technical support for geoscience programs in tertiary institutions nationwide.

He spoke while receiving the Corporate Impact Award for Research & Development at the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) 50 Golden Jubilee Awards, held at Eko Hotel & Suites.

“We are honored to receive this award from NAPE, especially as it celebrates 50 years of excellence in Nigeria’s energy sector. This recognition affirms our commitment to investing in education and capacity building, which are essential to the future of our industry. We remain dedicated to supporting Nigeria’s energy aspirations through collaboration, innovation, and the remarkable talent of this country.”

He said ExxonMobil affiliates have been active corporate members of NAPE since 1999, consistently demonstrating technical and business leadership through sponsorship of management sessions, world-class exhibitions, and award-winning technical papers at annual conferences.

According to him, the award underscores ExxonMobil’s continued commitment to empowering communities and advancing Nigeria’s energy future through education and innovation.  

Johnbosco Uche, President, Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), said the award was given to the company in recognition of ExxonMobil’s longstanding contributions to geoscience education and research development in Nigeria.

The Golden Jubilee Awards celebrated 50 distinguished professionals and institutions whose work has significantly shaped Nigeria’s energy industry over the past five decades. 

He added:”ExxonMobil’s recognition highlights its strategic investments in education, including the donation of workstations, infrastructure support, and training initiatives across Nigerian universities.”
