The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it has not granted approval for an extension of the deadline for the recapitalisation of Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in the country.
Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, the Acting Director of the Corporate Communications Department at CBN, said this in a statement released on Wednesday.
She described the circulating information suggesting that the deadline has been extended to December 31, 2025, as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard such claims.
She emphasized that the bank has not authorized any extension beyond the previously announced deadline of June 3, 2025.
She implored stakeholders to always verify information directly from official CBN sources—such as the Bank’s website and authorized communication channels—before publishing or sharing news related to the Bank and its regulatory directives.
“The CBN remains committed to ensuring transparency, stability, and compliance in the foreign exchange market and will continue to engage with all relevant stakeholders in accordance with its statutory mandate,” Mrs. Sidi Ali added.
