The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN),says that only its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, is constitutionally empowered to speak on behalf of the body on national and international matters.

In a press statement on Thursday, the group warned the public and media to disregard statements attributed to entities such as “Northern CAN,” “Southern CAN,” or any other unofficial groups, describing them as non-existent within the association’s recognized structure.

“This clarification is necessary to ensure accurate public representation and to prevent the spread of misinformation,” Archbishop Okoh stated.

According to the group, CAN operates a four-tier governance structure: national, zonal, state, and local government levels. The national body, headquartered in Abuja, is led by the President and the National Executive Council, with policy direction ratified by the General Assembly.

This is the only level authorized to represent all Christian denominations across the country on overarching matters, it said.

While zonal, state, and local chapters may address issues within their jurisdictions, Okoh emphasized that, “They are not authorised to issue statements representing the national position of CAN unless expressly permitted by the national leadership.”

The association also urged media organisations and stakeholders to verify any information attributed to CAN by contacting its National Secretariat or confirming that such communication is signed by the President or an officially designated representative.

It reaffirmed its dedication to Christian unity and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria, urging the public to rely solely on verified information from official sources.
