How Minister Facilitated Restoration Of Power To King’s College After Eight Months Blackout

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko Disco) on February 13,2025,restored electricity to King’s College,Main Campus,Lagos after over eight months of darkness.

The restoration of electricity supply to the school followed the intervention of the Minister of Education, Dr Olatunji Alausa,the Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education,  Mrs Folasade Boriowo, announced this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

The  statement quoted that in a decisive move to improve learning conditions, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, during an unscheduled visit to King’s College, Main Campus, TBS, Lagos, on Thursday, February 13, 2025, solved the long-pending electricity crisis of the school.

According to the statement,during the inspection, Dr Alausa discovered that there was a prolonged disconnection of the school from Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko Disco), leaving students and staff struggling with inadequate power supply.

Dr Alausa,the statement said, swiftly engaged Dr Tunji Olowolafe, Chairman of Eko Disco, requesting urgent intervention.

Responding promptly, Eko Disco’s CEO, Mrs Rekhiat Momoh, initiated immediate testing procedures and assured full restoration of power to the school.

“In a significant breakthrough, at exactly 9:41 PM yesterday, 19th of February, electricity was restored to the main campus.

“Confirming this milestone solution, the Principal of King’s College, Mr Magaji Zachariah, expressed gratitude, stating, ‘To God be all the glory, our main campus light was restored at exactly 9:41 PM today.’

“Under Dr Alausa’s leadership, the Federal Ministry of Education remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring conducive learning environments across all unity schools in Nigeria,” it stated.

The Minister appreciated Dr Olowolafe and Mrs Momoh for their swift response and assured continuous monitoring of the situation to ensure sustained power supply.

He explained that his intervention underscored the Ministry’s unwavering dedication to upgrading school infrastructure and ensuring that no student is left in the dark, both academically and literally.
