Explore Internal Power Generation Sources, Makinde Tells Ibadan Poly Mgt

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde,has implored the management of the Polytechnic, Ibadan, to explore and implement internal power generation solutions to reduce dependence on external power sources in the Campus.

He said the internal power generation will ensure a reliable and sustainable energy supply that will enhance the overall efficiency of the institution.

He spoke at the 39th Convocation Ceremony and award of Diplomas, Certificates, and Prizes of the Institution,on Friday.

He was represented at the occasion by the Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Prof Salihu Adelabu  

He disclosed that his administration would soon  constitute a governing council for the institution.

The governor also promised to intervene in the rehabilitation of major roads within the campus so as to allow easy vehicular movements in the campus.

He commended the management of the institution for smooth running of academic activities that is devoid of strike and disruption.

The governor, while congratulating the graduands of the institution admonished them to be good ambassadors of the institution and keep the flag of the institution flying whenever they find themselves.

“I would like to advise the graduands to apply the knowledge acquired here to become useful citizens of Nigeria, good ambassadors of Oyo State, and create jobs for yourselves instead  of looking for white-collar jobs that are becoming competitively difficult to secure.

“As alumni and alumnae, I admonish you to hold the ideals of your Institution very dearly, contributing positively to its good name, brand, and development.

“Also, I want you, the graduands, to know that with the certificates obtained from this Institution, you can become someone who is worthy of respect and pursue what you want, irrespective of what others say or do.

“Graduation is not the end, it is the beginning. I admonish you to reach out to the stars no matter the weather, always bring your sunshine. Remember that the fireworks have begun, each of you is a lighted match, go into the world and ignite it.

“Finally, my gratitude goes to all parents that had strived and laboured through thick and thin at ensuring that these are given a good education. I sincerely thank you for your support and untiring contributions to the academic attainments of the graduands.

Speaking on behalf of Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, Permanent Secretary/Inspector General of Education,Zone 2,Ms Ojo Oyeyemi Iyabo, appreciates the visitor to the institution for providing succour for smooth administration of the institution.

He urged all the academic and non-academic staff of the Polytechnic Ibadan, to reciprocate the good gesture of Governor by dedicating to their works.

Earlier, the Acting Rector of the Institution, Dr.Taiwo Lasisi explained that the institution is graduating 3,650 students across five facilities of the Institution.

He said that 1,669 from Faculty of Business and Communication Studies;571 from Faculty of science;574 from Faculty of Engineering;333 from Faculty of Environmental Studies and 503 from the Faculty of Financial Studies.

He hinted that his administration has ensured prompt payment of salaries, wages of workers and pension allowances. He said that his administration adhered to the academic Calendar without disruption.

He maintained that there is a foster peaceful interaction among students, staff, unions and neighbouring communities.

He appreciated Governor Makinde for entrusting him with the responsibility of serving the Institution as an acting Rector, adding that he will continue to uplift the institution.

He thanked the Governor for his assistance to the institution, most, especially in the area of accreditation, re-accreditation and resource accreditation of academic programmes.

He acknowledged the contributions of Tertiary Education Trust Fund(TETFUND) for its consistent support, saying its projects are visible across the Campus.
