Court Stops Police From Arresting Kano Anti-Corruption Boss

A Kano High Court,has stopped the Inspector General of Police,Mr. Kayode Egbetokun and his agents from arresting the Kano State Chairman of the Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission, Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado.

At the court sitting on Monday,Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji granted an interim order restraining the Inspector General of Police and Police Authority from inviting, arresting or harassing the Chairman Barrister Magaji pending the hearing of the substantive suit against his arrest last week.

He said:”Order is hereby granted appointing Red Star Express Plc., Courier Services as a Special Balliff to serve the originating process and other subsequent court processes in this suit on the 1st, 2nd and 5th defendants/respondents at their offices in Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Area 11, and Federal Capital Territory Abuja, outside the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court.”

“Order of Interim Injunction is hereby granted restraining the defendants/respondents either by themselves, their agents, officers, privies, representatives, and assigns from further inviting, arresting, detaining, harassing the officers of the 2nd plaintiffs/applicants or doing such acts that would be capable of interfering with the 2nd and 3rd Plaintiffs/Applicants right generally in relation to this suit compelling him to attend to their office at Abuja or at any other location in the country on the 27th January, 2025 or any other further subsequent dates pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

“Order of Interim Injunction is hereby granted restraining the defendants/Respondents from taking any further steps in connection with the matter, and maintain status quo ante bellum or staying all actions pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

The Kano-anti graft boss, Barrister Muhyi, was whisked by the IGP Teams last week following his alleged confiscation of property allegedly linked to APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi  Umar Ganduje. 

The properties,which were confiscated through Mr Bala Inuwa Muhammad suspected to be a proxy to Ganduje was said to have not gone down well with the APC Chairman who was alleged to have initiated the arrest of Mr Muhyi  Magaji Rimin Gado. 

The plaintiffs in the suit are the Kano State Attorney General, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Coruption Commission and Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado.

The defendants are the Nigerian Police Force, Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone One, Kano Commissioner of Police, ASP Ahmed Bello and Bala Muhammad Inuwa.

The court adjourned to February 10th for hearing of the motion on notice.
