Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger state,has proscribed payment of all Parent Teachers Association (PTA) levies in public primary and secondary schools.
He announced this during a day working visit to inspect on-going projects in Sarkin-Pawa, Munya Local Government Area of the state on Thursday
He disclosed that the state government has taken over the responsibility of paying all PTA levies and implored parents and guardians to ignore schools demanding for such levies henceforth.
In order to stem emptiness in most rural public schools,the Governor had earlier advised parents to enroll their wards, especially the girl child, and that school uniform should not be reason to deny the girl child the opportunity to attain basic education.
The Governor,who encouraged parents/guardians to report any Headmaster/Headmistress and Principal who sent their wards away said, “Allow the children, especially the girl child attend classes with their personal dresses. School uniforms should not be your impediment to attaining basic education”.
Expressing satisfaction with the ongiong road projects in the area, Governor Bago enjoined the contractors handling them to ensure timely completion in line with contractual obligations.
He also promised to construct road linking Sarikin-Pawa to Kaduna state, construct modern market in the area, provide potable water and as well befitting Primary Health Care facility to meet the health needs of the people.
