The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF),has presented Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
At a ceremony held on Monday at the MKO Abiola National Stadium on Monday, in Abuja, NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau,implored all Nigerians to rally behind the new coach.
He assured that the football body will provide Chelle with all the necessary backing to succeed in his assignment.
He expressed his admiration for Chelle’s confidence and determination during their discussions over the past few days.
He expressed optimism that the new coach will instill a winning mentality in the Super Eagles, turning around their fortunes in the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series.
“I see in our new Head Coach the right spirit and attitude.I am confident that he will take the Super Eagles to greater heights.He sees leading the Super Eagles as his dream job, and that passion itself is a huge motivation,” Gusau said.
He added:“Coach Chelle understands the task before him and is excited by the challenge.The NFF will be there to provide him with the necessary support every step of the way.”
He disclosed that the coach has signed a two-year contract, with an option for another year if he successfully qualifies the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals. Chelle has also brought on board three assistants and will collaborate with existing coaching staff to further elevate the Super Eagles brand.
He will also supervise the Super Eagles B team, which is preparing for the upcoming 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Also speaking,Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), reaffirmed the NSC’s full backing of the Franco-Malian coach.
He stated that the NSC was satisfied with the transparent process that led to his appointment by the NFF.
He added:“Football is the unifying factor that brings Nigerians joy. On our part, we are pleased with the process that led to Mr. Chelle’s appointment and we will support the NFF to ensure he has the best environment to succeed.
“The responsibility of securing a World Cup ticket is for everyone. The Government is committed to providing support, but the NFF has the mandate to lead that effort. We wish Coach Chelle the very best in his job.”
Éric Chelle expressed his excitement at taking on the role of coaching one of Africa’s biggest football teams.
He said:”I want to express my gratitude to my agent, the NFF, the NSC, and indeed all Nigerians for this incredible opportunity. Coaching the Super Eagles of Nigeria is a dream come true. I am truly honoured and will give my very best.
“Football is about scoring goals, so I favor an attacking style of play. I know the expectations of Nigerians and I will quickly settle down and work diligently with my assistants to qualify the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
