The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority,LASTMA,is deploying more personnel to the roads and patrol stations on account of the traffic gridlock occasioned by vehicles struggling to gain access to filling station due to fuel scarcity in the state.
It also warned motorists queuing up for fuel at different filling stations to avoid situation where they could cause breakdown of law and order, thereby causing serious traffic gridlock to other road users.
Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs & Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday
Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, General Manager, LASTMA, according to Taofiq, made the call on Wednesday, while deploying more officers of the Authority to monitor traffic around filling stations across the State.
He explained that the deployment became imperative following reports that long queues around filling stations are causing traffic issues.
According to him, reports reaching the Authority alleged that motorists park their vehicles indiscriminately, block the roads while queueing /waiting to buy fuel.
He expressed displeasure at the disorderly behaviour of some drivers, who he alleged queue up haphazardly and distrupt traffic flow.
He implored petrol marketers to ensure that products are sold in an orderly manner that would not infringe on the right of other road users, who may be denied of free movement.
He added:”The scarcity of fuel being experienced is not an excuse to block and impede traffic flows across Lagos. We want our roads to be free ; we do not want fuel queues to constitute a burden for other road users in Lagos,” Oreagba asserted.
