The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria has said a mere decision by government to block the nation’s border posts or man them effectively to prevent the illegal export of petroleum products to neighbouring countries could save the nation surplus funds to meet the yearnings of university workers.

The union said government needs to develop a will power to resolve the crisis with Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU),rather than saying it cannot afford to go borrowing to meet the demands of the lecturers.

It added that in less than 24 hours all the contentious issues relating to the ASUU strike and other unions within the university system can be resolved.

The TUC President,Comrade Festus ,disclosed these on Friday, while presiding over the National Admistrative Council (NAC) Central Working Committee (CWC) and National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Union in Abuja.

He has said the outburst of the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El Rufai claiming that bandits were running a parallel government in his state, was a direct manifestation of failure of security network nationwide.

He added that such complain coming from a state governor should be a wake up call for the President, Muhammadu Buhari and the entire security team to act swiftly and remedy the situation.

“Only recently, the Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-rufai complained that bandits are running a parallel government within his state by collecting tax returns from local communities, especially farmers, such a scenario shows that we have lost it as a nation, NEC in Council hereby call on the Nigerian government, the President Muhammadu Buhari to desist from lamentations and act swiftly.

“We also use this opportunity to call on the Nigerian military and the entire security chiefs to act swiftly ortherwise the tomorrow might be too late”.

Osifo also punctured the planned privitisation of public healthcare facilities in the country, warning that nothing meaningful came out of previous ones.
