The Lagos State government has said it will partner the GAC Motors to set up a vehicle assembly plant in the state, as part of his administration’s THEMES agenda to provide affordable means of transportation, as well as employment opportunities for the residents.

The state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed this while inspecting the GAC Motors Nigeria Limited Assembly Plant in Ogba, Ikeja, on Thursday.

He said: “This is one of the things that we promised Lagosians that apart from our relationship with GAC Motors, there’s a partnership in which we want to set up a vehicle assembly plant.

“We have all gone there to see that site. The equipment has started coming in and the place is well prepared to receive the production of vehicles.”

While expressing satisfaction with the level of work at the assembly plant, the governor noted: “The entire thing is coming up very well and we hope that part of the plan is to have a production assembly that can produce about 5,000 vehicles at the first instance and up to 10,000.

“We are happy with the level of work and the commitment of the partner, GAC Motors. We are happy that we can indeed begin to implement the plan, which is that we don’t want to begin to buy fully built vehicles from them. We want to have an assembly, as well as have the opportunity to train and employ the state residents for the production line.”
