The People’s Voice Advocacy Network has expressed disgust over the deplorable state of General Hospital Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area, in Kwara state

“We are surprised that despite several millions of public funds reported to have been injected into the said renovation through contract awards, the situation still remains the same”, its Assistant Publicity Secretary,Comrade Abdulraheem Olaitan, said in a statement obtained by PremiumNews.

The group commended  the giant stride of Elites Network for Sustainable Development (ENetSuD) in monitoring how   Kwara’s money is being spent, while requesting for the detailed report of it findings so as to keep the public abreast of happenings.

“First and foremost, we want to applaud this courageous step taken by ENetSuD in ensuring that public funds meant  for the development of our dear state are well spent. They have succeeded in bridging the gap created by 9th KWHA in abdicating their statutory functions of legislative oversight by sleeping over one of its core  mandates.

“In its  report titled ‘Contracts for Lafiagi General Hospital Under Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq Administration’, ENetSuD reveals how the KWSG spent a total sum of N106,600,000 for the complete renovation of Lafiaji General Hospital through 3 different contract awards. It is sad to learn that despite all these millions of naira expended, the hospital is still in a wrecked conditions.

“Going by ENetSuD investigations and findings, the hospital has no constant water supply, epileptic power has become a norm, lack of medical equipments, to mention but a few. One will begin to ask – where is the over N106million the KWSG under the leadership of Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq claimed to have used in renovating the hospital?”

The group emphasized the need for ENetSuD to  come out with the details of her investigations and findings while imploring Kwarans to hold their legislators accountable for their ineptitude.

It said:”While applauding ENetSuD, we request that a detailed report of her findings should be published for public scruitiny. Since the KWSG has refused to domesticate the Freedom of Information Bill (FoI Bill) in Kwara State, we hope Kwarans will start holding members of the 9th KWHA accountable for the anti-people policies of the Executive in the manner in which their common patrimony was recklessly spent without the desired results”
