
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State Governor has promised members of the business community in the state that his administration is committed to improving the business environment with a view to attracting more investment.
Sanwo-Olu,who was represented by Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, his deputy, gave the assurance while speaking at the Lagos State Day at the 2021 International Trade fair held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
He also said the state would continue to place high priority on key infrastructure that would make it safe, secure, functional and productive as an impetus towards achieving a sustainable economic growth through highly-motivated and vibrant private-sector participation.
According to him,this year’s Lagos State Day presents yet another unique opportunity to showcase investment opportunities available in the State to the business community and also apprise the gathering of the efforts the state have been making to improve its business climate and attract more local and foreign investments.
“Since the inception of this administration, we have left no one in doubt our intention to accord the private sector a pride of place in our vision and plan to build a 21st century economy.
“In the past two years, we have taken practical steps to translate our intention into concrete actions through the various infrastructural projects and business friendly policies that we have continued to implement with the overriding objective of making the environment more conducive for investment to thrive,” he said.
He noted that the state have also not relented in it’s efforts in the areas of ensuring improved power supply and enhanced internet connectivity which is a major component of the smart city project.
“I will not fail to mention the massive investment in stepping up the capacity of our security architecture which has ensured that Lagos State remains one of the safest States in Nigeria,” he added.
Dr. Lola Akande, Commissioner, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, in her welcome address said the participation of the Lagos State Government in the annual Trade Fair affords it the opportunity to accommodate a number of Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) in the State Pavilion to relieve them of the burden of cost of participation.
She stated that this afford the MSMEs the opportunity of showcasing their products and services for the awareness of members of the public, including the international community, free of charge.
“This is one of the many ways in which the State Government is promoting and providing networking platform for our MSMEs to stimulate demand for their products and services and ultimately facilitate the enhancement of their productivity,” she said.
Akande also said Lagos State is one of Nigeria’s most endowed economies and has a lot of business opportunities with a vast high-skilled pool of human resources.
“ With the economic situation of our country today, it is imperative that Government and small businesses buckle up by growing and sustaining an entrepreneurial and innovation-driven economy.
‘It is with pride that I say that the administration of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has been taking giant strides to create an enabling environment for entrepreneurship development and business prosperity by focusing on development of physical infrastructure and other business support processes to enhance economic competitiveness and productivity of small enterprises in the state.
She assured that the state shall not rest on its oars until business prosperity is guaranteed.
