The Federal Government,has condemned the Coup De’tat in Guinea where soldiers loyal to Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, Head of Special Forces, sacked President Alpha Condé from power.
Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esther Sunsuwa,in a statement,expressed disgust over the development,saying adding that it was in clear violation of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.”
The statement also disclosed that the government of Nigeria strongly condemns and rejects any unconstitutional change of government.”
The government implored those behind this coup to restore constitutional order without delay and protect all lives and property.
Crisis rocked part of Guinea following recent election in which the President, Alpha Condé won a controversial third term in office, preliminary results show, amid violent protests across the country.
Guinea’s leading opposition figure Cellou Dalein Diallo appealed against President Alpha Conde’s victory in the October 2020 presidential election at the country’s constitutional court.
The opposition figure’s lawyer, Amadou Diallo, told the media that the appeal, filed on Sunday, contains “irrefutable evidence” that irregularities marred the election.
“The personalization of political life is over. We will no longer entrust politics to one man; we will entrust it to the people,” Col. Doumbouya said.
