UNILAG Fires  Two Lecturers Over Sexual Assault

The Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has recommended immediate dismissal of two of its lecturers over sexual harassment.
The dismissed lecturers include Dr. Boniface Igbenegbu of the Department of European Languages and Integration Studies, Faculty of Art and Dr. Samuel Omoniyi Oladipo of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences.
The council reached this verdict following its meeting on Monday, May 31, 2021, which held within the precinct of the university.
According to the council, the actions of the lecturers were adjured as misconduct.
Both lecturers had been spotlighted in a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) World Service Investigative Series titled ‘Africa Eye’,  a documentary that centred on sexual harassment in tertiary institutions.
The university,in a statement said: “The Council consequently decided and approved that both Dr. Boniface Igbenegbu and Dr.  Samuel Omoniyi Oladipo be dismissed from the services of the University for misconduct, with effect from Monday, May 31, 2021 in line with Section 18 of the University of Lagos Act 1967”.
