Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the Minister of Science and Technology,has emphasized the need for Nigeria to consider nuclear energy to solve erratic power supply in the country.
Onu spoke in Abuja at the Nigeria Energy Calculator 2050 (NECAL2050) stakeholders engagement,where he also said that when Nigeria peacefully maximises nuclear energy, it would help build a stable power supply and impact positively on socio-economic areas such as medicine, agriculture, education, manufacturing and overall national economic development.
He called for the active participation of the organised private sector (OPS) on research and development in nuclear technology for the overall benefits of Nigeria.
He said there was need for Nigeria to partner with other countries willing to help in the development of necessary expertise in nuclear technology.
He also advocated the need for efficient and effective use of energy resources to guarantee rapid national industrialisation of the country .
