The Nigerian Army on Sunday night killed 11 Boko Haram insurgents during a gunfight in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
A member of the civilian Joint Task Force, Babagana Mustapha, who disclosed this in Borno, said the terrorists were killed while attempting to attack the troops of 192 Battalion in Gwoza.
He said:“The Tango 9 troops responded rapidly, by engaging the terrorists with a high volume of firepower and instantly neutralised some of them, while others were forced to retreat.We have counted at least 11 corpses of the insurgents after exploring the general area. With the aid of heavy firing and mortar bombs, troops engaged them at their mountainous den,” he said.
He added that the troops recovered a dozen AK-47 rifles, anti-aircraft guns, motorcycles, as well as several other items from the insurgents.
