The Rivers State Police Command has removed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Abuloma Division following allegations that suspected cultists renovated the Abuloma Police Outpost.
The officer overseeing the outpost was also dropped.
The action was sequel to a viral social media report and video alleging that suspected cultists visited the outpost on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the renovation they allegedly bankrolled.
The Command has ordered a full investigation into the allegation Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
She condemned any action capable of compromising the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force or conferring legitimacy on suspected cult groups.
“The Command strongly condemns any action or association capable of compromising the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force or conferring legitimacy, recognition or acceptance on suspected cult groups or other unlawful organisations.
“Police facilities are public institutions established for the protection of citizens and the enforcement of law and must not become platforms through which criminal groups seek public validation or influence,” she said.
Agabe stressed that police facilities were public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law, adding that they must not become platforms for criminal groups to seek public recognition, validation or influence.
“Under the leadership of CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, fcai, the Command maintains zero tolerance for criminality and any conduct that undermines public confidence in the Police.
“Consequently, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the Divisional Officer overseeing the affected Police Outpost have been queried and relieved of their duties pending investigation,” she said.
She further stated that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the renovation and verify the allegations.
According to Agabe, investigators will identify the individuals or groups that financed or facilitated the project, determine the police personnel who authorised or approved the renovation, and establish whether the required procedures were followed.
She stated that the probe will also examine whether any officer breached professional standards, compromised the integrity of the Force or participated in any improper conduct connected with the project.
Agabe said the Command recognised the importance of legitimate community support in improving police facilities, citing Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.
She, however, stressed that such assistance must not compromise police independence, professional standards or security.
Agabe added that the investigation would determine whether the required approvals were obtained and appropriate background checks conducted on those who financed or facilitated the renovation.
She warned that no donation or assistance would shield anyone from investigation or prosecution if found culpable of wrongdoing.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to discipline and accountability, Agabe said it would not tolerate unprofessional conduct, compromise or any improper association between police officers and criminal elements.
She stressed that all personnel were expected to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
Agabe further assured residents that the Command remained committed to professionalism, transparency, the protection of lives and property, and the fight against cultism and organised crime.
