A 25-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly severing her boyfriend’s genitals with a knife at a hotel in Kano, following a dispute over his decision to marry another woman.
The Kano State Police Command said the incident occurred at about 12:50 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Durbar Hotel in the Badawa area.
Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said hotel management alerted security operatives to the violent altercation.
The suspect was identified as Maimunatu Idris, 25, from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
According to police, preliminary investigations revealed that Idris attacked her boyfriend after learning of his intention to marry another woman.
The victim, whose identity was not disclosed, sustained life-altering injuries and is receiving treatment at Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital.
“The suspect allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a sharp knife after discovering his intention to marry another woman. During the attack, the suspect severed the victim’s manhood,” Kiyawa said in a statement.
He said the Divisional Police Officer of Badawa Division promptly led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested and the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit.
Kiyawa added that the injured man was immediately evacuated to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment, while detectives have commenced a full investigation into the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condemned the attack, describing violence as an unacceptable response to personal disagreements.
“The Nigeria Police Force is constitutionally empowered to investigate, arrest and prosecute offenders through due process. Members of the public should desist from taking the law into their own hands under any guise,” the police commissioner said.
Bakori assured residents that the Command would conduct a diligent, transparent and thorough investigation, adding that anyone found culpable would be arraigned in court in accordance with the law.
