The Anambra Police Command is currently investigating the death of a 25-year-old female student found dead in Onitsha on June 18, 2026 in a suspected suicide case.
Police Commissioner CP Ikioye Orutugu said a note recovered at the scene linked the death to a failed relationship and alleged abortions for a man identified as Chigozie.
While investigations are in progress to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, Orutugu expressed concern over rising moral decadence and social vices.
He advised parents, schools, religious leaders and community groups to strengthen guidance, emotional support and mentorship for young people.
“Parents must pay closer attention to their children’s emotional wellbeing, social interactions and behavior,” he said. “Many social challenges can be reduced through effective parenting and open communication.”
Orutugu has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a comprehensive and discreet investigation.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while collaborating with stakeholders to address emerging social concerns affecting public safety and societal wellbeing.
