Rainstorm Kills Grandmother, Grandchild In Bauchi

A rainstorm killed a 50-year-old woman and her 4-year-old granddaughter Wednesday morning in Kirfi LGA, Bauchi State, police confirmed.

The victims died around 10:00 a.m. on June 10, 2026, when violent winds and hours of torrential rain collapsed their home in Unguwar Katsinawa, Bara Village. 

Officials said several buildings were flattened and livestock washed away, with damages running into millions of naira.

Police Command spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib disclosed that the victims were caught unaware as the destructive weather front tore through the community.

Operatives from the Kirfi Police Division were immediately dispatched to stabilize the area and evaluate the structural damage. 

Initial assessments reveal widespread devastation, with multiple families displaced after losing homes and valuable assets to the floodwaters.

The Commissioner of Police commiserated with the bereaved family and the Kirfi community, promising close collaboration with emergency response agencies to provide relief.
