The Oyo State Police Command has begun probe into an alleged attempted defilement of a six-year-old girl in Ibadan.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
The statement informs that operatives of the Command are currently investigating a distressing case of attempted defilement involving the minor, who was allegedly coerced and indecently assaulted on several occasions in December 2025 while hawking at Onikeke, Ayegun area of Ibadan.
The suspect, identified as 65-year-old Ibrahim Raheem, was arrested and reportedly confessed to indecently abusing the child, though he denied having carnal knowledge of her.
According to the statement, following the discovery of the incident, the victim was immediately taken to a hospital for comprehensive medical examination, while socio-psychological support was also provided to address the trauma she suffered.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna directed that the matter be transferred to the Command’s Gender Desk for discreet and professional investigation.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence are brought to justice, urging members of the public to continue providing credible information to aid law enforcement efforts.
