A 45-year-old man, Bankole Oginni, who claimed to be a football coach, has allegedly ripped open his lover’s bowel in an attempted ritual sacrifice
The incident, which happened in Oke Aro area of Akure, Ondo State capital, on Saturday, was reported to the police at B’ Division, Oke Aro on Sunday.
The daughter of the deceased told the police that her 45-year-old mother was contacted on the phone by her ex-lover, Bankole Oginni, and subsequently invited her to his place.
She said that when her mother didn’t return from her ex-lover’s place, she decided to call her mobile line, but it was switched off.
She explained that she decided to go to her mother’s ex-lover’s residence only to find her lying on the floor of his room with both her legs and hands tied.
She told the police that she also discovered that her mother’s bowel was ripped open and her intestines had been removed.
On discovering this, she raised the alarm and her mother’s ex-lover was apprehended and subsequently handed over to the police.
The Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya,who confirmed this incident,said the suspect has been arrested and would be transferred to the state command headquarters at Alagbaka, Akure, for thorough investigation.
She disclosed that there were patches on the body of the deceased which suggested she was also attacked with hot water by her ex-lover.
Odunlami-Omisanya assured that the suspect would be arraigned appropriately, while the remains of the deceased has been deposited in the morgue.
