The Ondo State Police Command have arrested three alleged serial rapists in the state.
The state’s Police Commissioner, Bolaji Salami,who disclosed this while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters, Alagbaka, Akure, on Thursday, the state Police Commissioner, Bolaji Salami,said one of the suspects, Stephen John, 23, was arrested following a report by one Mrs. Oluwakemi Isaac, living on Tajudeen Street, Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state at the Police station on August 5, 2021 that her daughter had been raped.
Mrs Isaac explained that she sent her daughter, Fatima Yahaya on an errand and was allegedly waylaid by Stephen who dragged her to a nearby bush and subsequently raped her around 7 AM
After the suspect was arrested, three other women came to the station and accused him of raping them on their different farmlands on different occasions.
They alleged he raped while hold a cutlass threatening to hack them if they refused to allow him have carnal knowledge of them.
Stephen, who is from Cross Rivers State, who claimed that Fatima was his girlfriend,said she was collecting money from him, but would not allow him sleep with her.
He decided to have his way forcefully to compensate for the money she had been collecting from her.
The other two suspects, Igbekele Ajenode, 22, were arrested for allegedly raping one Earnest Omodayo of Heavenly Joy, Akotogbo, Ese-Odo Local Government Area of the state while she was returning from a party.
According to the Police Commissioner, Omodayo reported that she was dragged by Igbekele and four other boys to a room and gang raped her on July 26, 2021.
Igbekele and Iyasere Olanrewaju, 21, were subsequently arrested, while others are currently on the run.
While speaking with newsmen, Igbekele said Omodayo was his girlfriend, but her mother didn’t want her daughter have any relationship with him.
He claimed that his friend, Olanrewaju called him on the fateful day that Omodayo was looking for him and he came to see her.
He said when he saw her, he asked Olanrewaju to give him the key to his room and they made love.
The suspect said when Omodayo’s mother got wind of what transpired between him and her daughter, she went to report at the Police station claiming her daughter had been raped.
He said there was no case of gang-rape.
The commissioner of Police stated that investigations into the case have been concluded and the suspects would soon be arraigned in court.
