One person was reported killed and scores injured on Saturday when suspected hoodlums and landgrabbers unleashing mayhem on residents of Isiu community in Lagos State.
The monarch of Isiu, Oba Olukayode Raji said that the heinous crimes committed by the hoodlums has led to unrest in the community.
He implored the Inspector General (IGP), Mr Alkali Baba, and Lagos state commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Hakeem Odumosu, to as a matter of urgency intervene and curb the insecurity situation in Isiu community.
He said:”I want my community to have peace, infact the problem continues on daily basis.The hoodlums shoot guns sporadically to disperse and scare residents including those going for their lawful duty.I am calling on the police and other security agencies to come to my aid and restore peace in my community,” the monarch said.
He recalled that the violence started since his appointment and given staff of office as the monarch of Isiu by the Lagos state government on Aug. 24 2020.
He urged the police to approve siting of a police station in the community adding that the area was with population of about 3000 residents.
The chairman, Isiu Community Development Association (CDA), Mr Opeyemi Taiwo, said that the hoodlums usually carry out their heinous attack in the night.
According to Taiwo, one person was allegedly shot dead today and his corpse has been been taken to Imota Police station.
” This community has been experiencing horrific attack since the Lagos state government gave our King HRM. Oba Olukayode Raji, staff of office in Aug. 2020.One of the aspirant to throne of Obaship became angry and began to wage war against the community.Any time they come, they get our wives raped, collect phones, okada and money, nobody can sleep with two eyes closed.Farmers cannot go to farm and shops have remained closed,” he said
Mrs Iyabode Alimi, a 67-year-old elderly woman also appealed to security agencies in the state to as a matter of urgency intervene and curb the current unrest situation in the community.
Mr Ifagbemi Adifala, the Araba of Isiu in his reaction appealed to the Lagos state government to provide adequate security having a combination of joint taskforce so that residents would sleep with their two eyes closed.
He urged the police to reinstate a reinforcement team who were desgnitated to the community pending when the issue is surmounted.
The chairman, Ikorodu North Local Council Developmental Area, Mr Adeola Banjo, in his response said that the violence was caused by intra-rivalry fracas between land grabbers in the area.
He said:”I was in the office almost every day of the week, so who are the hoodlums, they are land grabbers.Security issue is not we discuss openly, I have done the needful from my own side, the needful I have done it, the matter is an issue of land grabbers and nothing more, the chairman said.
