The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has promised that electricity supply to Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory hit by outages will begin to improve within the next 48 to 72 hours.
He made the promise in an update on the power situation, stressing that his team is working to return the affected generating units to service in phases, with the first set back online in the next 48 to 72 hours.
He is aware of the difficulties that the current outages have placed on households and businesses in four affected states, including Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, planned maintenance at Egbin Power Station and constraints in gas supply to some thermal stations have reduced the amount of electricity available on the national grid.
He said grid operators have therefore implemented load shedding in some areas to manage the shortfall.
He stated that sabotage of key transmission lines has also restricted the use of alternative routes to supply some locations, especially Lagos.
He also disclosed that his Ministry is collaborating with operators to improve gas supply and accelerate repairs to the damaged infrastructure.
