The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) says no staff member was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) over its promotion exercise.
It said the DSS only invited representatives of both management and the staff union for a meeting over the promotion dispute, where the matter was discussed and both parties were asked to return to status quo.
Head of Corporate Communications, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, clarified this in a statement this while reacting to a media report suggesting a breakdown in relations between LIRS management and its workforce over promotions and alleged DSS involvement.
“It is unfortunate that a section of the media has chosen sensationalism over responsible journalism by publishing a concocted account of events surrounding the DSS engagement. Nobody was detained. As stated earlier both parties were invited, the matter was discussed, and everyone was asked to return to status quo. To turn this into a story of detention and intimidation is a misrepresentation of the facts,” she said.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to staff welfare, regular promotions and professional development, noting that its 2,800 professionals remain central to its growth and performance in revenue generation and operational efficiency.
It explained that promotion decisions are based on merit, competence and performance, adding that it will sustain investment in staff training, capacity building and career advancement.
The LIRS also remains open to constructive engagement with recognised staff representatives to promote workplace harmony, meritocracy and efficient service delivery.
