The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, has said the electoral victories of Nigerians in the November 3, 2026 United States midterm elections reflect the growing influence of Nigerians in global political leadership.
Chairman/CEO of the Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who described the wins as a demonstration of the increasing contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora to political leadership and public service, congratulated the 14 Nigerian-Americans elected.
In a statement issued in Abuja by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit of NiDCOM, Dabiri-Erewa commended the elected candidates for their dedication to public service.
Among those who won were Will Jawando, elected Montgomery County Executive in Maryland; Oye Owolewa, who secured an At-Large seat on the DC Council; and Junior Ezeonu, elected to represent District 101 in the Texas House of Representatives.
Other successful candidates include Olaleye Onikuyide in Connecticut, Ukeme Jeter in Ohio, Odus Evbagharha in Texas and Carol Kazeem, who retained her seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
The statement also listed Gabe Okoye, Phil Olaleye and Solomon Adesanya as winners of State House elections in Georgia, alongside Segun Adeyina, who won District 110.
Esther Agbaje also secured re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives, while Justin Onwenu won in Michigan and Janelle Anyanonu emerged victorious in New Mexico.
NiDCOM, however, said the result of the election involving KC Ohaebosim, a 10-year member of the Kansas State Legislature seeking the position of Lieutenant Governor, was still being awaited.
Dabiri-Erewa congratulated all the winners and expressed optimism that they would make meaningful contributions to governance and the communities they represent.
