The 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit (NES#32) will go ahead as scheduled despite confirmation of one imported Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory.

The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) confirmed this Saturday in a statement by its Head, Strategic Communications and Advocacy, Ayanyinka Ayanlowo.

NESG said the Summit will hold on Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

It said the event will run in a modified hybrid format with enhanced public health measures agreed with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

The decision follows confirmation of a single imported case of Ebola (Bundibugyo virus) disease in the FCT on October 20, 2026.

Health authorities have isolated the patient and monitoring contacts.

After an assessment of the situation against the NCDC Public Health Guidelines for Mass Gatherings, the NESG noted that an imported case alone does not warrant event cancellation, the statement quoted.

It added: “The Summit will therefore proceed with proportionate, documented precautionary measures, informed by a health security risk assessment and appropriate mitigation measures, to safeguard the health and safety of participants.

“The full complement of the Presidency, Members of the Federal Executive Council, State Governors and Captains of Industry and distinguished keynote speakers at home and from around the world including Dr Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary General of the UN, Prof Stefan Derco of the Oxford University and Alh Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group are confirmed, along side other speakers at the two-day Summit.

“Also The Honourable Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare will attend the Opening Ceremony.”

Ayanlowo explained that in-person attendance is limited to registered delegates.

According to the statement, physical registration has closed, adding that there will be no on-site registration or walk-in admission.

It also said all plenary sessions will be streamed live on the NES#32 virtual platform. Registered delegates may switch to virtual participation.

It added: “Everyone entering the venue, including delegates, staff, vendors and media, will complete a health declaration and temperature check each day.

“Anyone with fever or other symptoms, or who has been in contact with a known or suspected case in the past 21 days, should not attend in person and should join online.

“Ebola is not spread through the air or by people without symptoms. It spreads only through direct contact with the body fluids of a person who is ill.

“For health concerns, call the NCDC toll-free line 6232.Delegates will receive the NES#32 Delegates Health & Safety Information Pack by email.”

Speaking on the decision, Dr Tayo Aduloju, Chief Executive Officer of the NESG, said safety of every delegate, partner and member of staff comes first.

“We have taken this decision on the evidence and in close partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, NCDC, Africa CDC, the FCT health authorities and Transcorp Hilton.

“The measures in place are proportionate and tested, and they allow Nigeria’s foremost platform for public–private dialogue to meet at a time when the conversation on our economy matters more than ever.

“We thank our partners for their support and urge everyone to follow the guidance of the health authorities.”
