The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has welcomed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to conduct a comprehensive system study and review of its operations as part of efforts to deepen accountability and improve transparency.
The agency was recently ranked as leader in the power sector in the 2025 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Ranking and Performance Outlook conducted by the ICPC.
During the ICPC’s visit to the agency’s headquarters, its Managing Director, Abba Aliyu emphasized that as the REA continues to manage increasingly significant programs, partnerships, and investments, it carries a heightened responsibility to ensure its internal frameworks are fully accountable, transparent, and fit for purpose.
He advocated the need for more collaboration between the commission and the agency’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU).
“Transparency is strongest when an organization is willing to open its systems to external scrutiny, identify operational gaps, and actively implement corrective measures,” he said.
He pledged that the collaboration with the ICPC and ACTU will be a continuous framework, ensuring ongoing evaluation and strengthening of the systems driving rural electrification across the country.
