Okengwe-Ehi community in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi, will crown its new traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Okidi, in a nine-day coronation ceremony slated for October 3 to 11, 2026.
This was announced announced in a statement made available to Premium News on Saturday.
According to the statement, the programme will feature traditional rites, cultural performances, entertainment, the formal coronation and installation, and a special reception hosted by Friends of Ohindase.
A major highlight is a colloquium on Ebira cultural heritage scheduled for Monday, October 5 at AFIMS Hotel, it quoted.
The colloquium is designed to explore innovative ways to preserve and promote Ebira culture across generations. It is expected to attract Ebira sons and daughters from Nigeria and the diaspora, traditional rulers, academics, community leaders and other stakeholders.
The statement disclosed that Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, is expected as Special Guest of Honour, while Prof. Sunny Ododo will deliver the keynote address.
According to the Coronation Committee, the installation of the new Ohindase is not only a celebration of a revered traditional institution, but an opportunity to reflect on Ebira heritage and its role in fostering peace, unity and sustainable development.
It added: “The coronation and installation of HRH Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Okidi, the Ohindase of Okengwe-Ehi, therefore provides a fitting opportunity not only to celebrate a significant traditional institution but also to reflect on the richness of Ebira cultural heritage and, more importantly, examine the role that our shared heritage can play in promoting peaceful coexistence, unity, mutual respect and sustainable community development.
“The people of Ebira, friends of Ohindase Okengwe-Ehi, cultural enthusiasts and members of the public are warmly invited to participate in the historic celebration.”
