The Nigeria Football Federation has sacked members of the Super Falcons technical crew of their duties with immediate effect.
The decision, announced Monday by the NFF Executive Committee, was sequel to Nigeria’s poor performance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The football body said: “The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect.”
Nigeria’s campaign ended in the last eight following a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon, bringing their pursuit of another continental title to an abrupt end.
The quarter-final elimination also had wider consequences for Nigeria’s hopes of securing a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, to be hosted by Brazil.
After failing to advance further at the African championship, the Super Falcons missed the opportunity to secure an automatic qualification ticket to the global tournament.
Nigeria was later required to continue its qualification campaign through the African playoffs, with a place in the inter-confederation playoffs at stake.
The Super Falcons then faced South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the African playoff, but suffered another setback after losing the decisive encounter 2-1.
The defeat brought Nigeria’s qualification campaign to an end and confirmed that the Super Falcons will not feature at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The latest development now leaves the NFF with the duty of determining the next direction for the national women’s team as preparations commence for future international engagements.
