The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has frozen the bank account of the Osun State government to halt the transfer of N11 billion in public funds.
The Commission disclosed this on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, saying the move followed suspicious movements from Ecological Funds, Intervention Funds, and FAAC accounts.
According to the EFCC, it commenced investigation into the Osun government in March 2026. The Accountant General and other officials have since been questioned.
The Commission said a Post-No-Debit order became necessary after it detected heavy transfers of funds to various corporate accounts from August 2, 2026.
The EFCC stated that its action was not influenced by the upcoming governorship election in the state, but was in line with its mandate to prevent the pillaging of public funds.
It said that it will continue to act to protect state resources and ensure accountability.
It also said that the Commission is keeping watch over the finances of other states like Osun State.
It added: “Many of these states are on the investigative radar of the Commission to ensure accountability and probity. The Commission has always pointed out that it is non-partisan and non-sectarian but always working in the overall interests of Nigerians. The Osun State government account was frozen to save public funds from being looted.
” The public is enjoined to ignore false narratives and deliberate demonization of the works of the EFCC. The interests of all Nigerians are greater and will always be protected by the Commission.”
