The Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded a suspected sponsor of ISWAP and Boko Haram in the custody of the Department of State Services pending trial.
The defendant, Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama, was arraigned on Wednesday on four counts bordering on terrorism financing and concealment of information.
According to the charge sheet, Kaigama between January and June 2026 allegedly solicited, collected and possessed funds from members of the public, knowing they would be used to finance ISWAP and Boko Haram activities.
He was further accused of rendering direct and indirect support to the proscribed groups by providing material assistance and financial services, and of dealing in terrorist funds at their direction in Abuja and Gwoza, Borno State.
The offences are contrary to Sections 13(1), 16(1), 21 and 23(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
He pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.
Prosecuting counsel, Dr Caliatus Eze, prayed the court to remand the defendant in DSS custody, on account of national security concerns.
In his ruling, Justice Salim Ibrahim ordered Kaigama’s remand in DSS custody and ordered that he receive proper medical care.
He adjourned the matter to September 24, 2026 for trial.
