Osun State Government has banned all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in motor parks across Osun State over incessant clashes between factions.
The directive was sequel to a security meeting in Osogbo on Thursday, chaired by the governor and attended by heads of security agencies including the Police, DSS, Army, Navy, Air Force, Civil Defence, NDLEA, Immigration, FRSC, and Amotekun.
In a statement after the meeting, Governor Ademola Adeleke explained that the decision was taken to restore order and sanity to motor parks.
He directed the Police and other security agencies to halt all NURTW activities and stop levy collections in parks across the state with immediate effect.
He further ordered security operatives to arrest anyone parading as an official or executive of the union in any park.
He said: “I hereby direct the Police and other security agents to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I am not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union in our parks. Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbance of public peace.”
The Governor further directed immediate establishment of the Rapid Response squad which will consist of all the security agents in the state that will ensure the compliance with the directive.
All the security commanders present pledged full compliance with the order.
