TotalEnergies Exploration and Production Nigeria says its Ubeta and IMA gas projects will supply about 30 per cent of the feedstock needed for the Nigeria LNG (NLNG) Train 7 project.

Its Managing Director and Country Chair, Matthieu Bouyer, said this on Wednesday during a panel session at the 25th NOG Energy Week Conference and Exhibition in Abuja.

Speaking on the theme, “Synchronising Gas Strategies – Strengthening Energy Security,” Bouyer said the commitment underscores TotalEnergies’ drive to boost gas production for both domestic use and export.

He noted that the Ubeta project, currently under development, is expected to deliver about 10 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscfd) in its first phase.

He stated that the IMA project is expected to contribute a similar volume when it comes on stream, bringing the combined supply from both projects to roughly 30 per cent of the gas feedstock required for NLNG’s Train 7 expansion.

According to him, the projects are designed to serve both export and domestic gas markets, creating jobs, stimulating industrial growth and generating greater economic value for the country. “It’s growth in gas, growth in employment, and growth in value for the country,” Bouyer said.

The Ubeta gas condensate field, located in OML 58, he said, will be developed through a six-well cluster connected to the existing Obite facilities by an 11-kilometre buried pipeline. The project is expected to commence production in 2027 and reach a plateau output of about 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

He also disclosed that the gas from the Ubeta field will supply NLNG’s liquefaction plant on Bonny Island, which is expanding its production capacity from 22 million tonnes per annum to 30 million tonnes through the Train 7 project.

He added that the offshore IMA development in the shallow waters of OML 112 is expected to produce about 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day when production begins in 2026, equivalent to nearly 300 million standard cubic feet of gas daily. Most of the gas from the project will also be supplied to the NLNG plant on Bonny Island.

He reiterated the company’s long-term commitment to Nigeria’s gas industry, saying the projects align with TotalEnergies’ strategy of expanding gas production while supporting economic development through increased investment, employment and value creation.
