The Federal Government will resume the evacuation of Nigerian nationals from South Africa on Monday, June 29, 2026, with 271 citizens expected back in Lagos on Tuesday.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said an Air Peace aircraft will depart Nigeria at 3:00 p.m. and land in South Africa at about 9:00 p.m. local time.
The return flight is scheduled to leave South Africa at 12:00 midnight and arrive at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Tuesday morning.
The evacuation follows renewed efforts by the Federal Government to assist Nigerian nationals in South Africa who requested repatriation after facing various challenges, including financial hardship, immigration-related issues, and other personal circumstances.
The exercise is being coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in South Africa and Air Peace, the designated carrier for the operation. It forms part of Nigeria’s longstanding policy of providing consular assistance and ensuring the safe return of citizens in distress abroad.
The latest operation comes after previous evacuation exercises undertaken by the Federal Government from several countries during periods of crisis or hardship.
