The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has shut down 15 fake social media accounts impersonating its Chief Executive, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan.
Found on X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok, the accounts were run by fraudsters trying to deceive the public, NUPRC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, said Thursday.
According to the Commission, Mrs Eyesan maintains only one official social media presence — a verified LinkedIn account — and cautioned the public against engaging with any other account bearing her name or identity.
“The matter has also been reported to the appropriate authorities. For the sake of clarity, the NUPRC states that Mrs Eyesan has only one social media account which is a verified page on LinkedIn,” Eniola said in a statement.
The Commission further warned those behind the fake accounts to immediately desist from the illegal act, stressing that anyone who interacts with the impersonators does so at their own risk.
