The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has dismissed 11 officials and slammed a two-year suspension on 15 others from its Lagos, Rivers and Bayelsa State Councils over alleged misconduct and disregard for National Executive Council (NEC) decisions.

The union took the action at an emergency NEC meeting held on Monday, May 18, 2026, in Lagos, following the consideration of a disciplinary committee report established on April 27 to investigate alleged breaches within the union.

TUC President-General, Comrade Engr. Festus Osifo, told newsmen that the committee was mandated to examine cases of “flagrant disobedience,” ensure affected individuals were given fair hearing, and recommend sanctions where appropriate.

He noted that the panel submitted its report within seven working days, after which the NEC reviewed and adopted its recommendations.

The 11 expelled members include Abiodun Aladetan, Gbolahan Kabiawu, Veronica Egbukichi, and Salau Oladele of the Lagos State Council; Josiah Udoka, Emmanuel Onumbu, and June Danangogo of the Rivers State Council; Ben Asogwa, Simeon Ejikemen Akaeme, and Igbokwe Joe Igbokwe of the Enugu State Council; and Fefegha Muneneyi Edwin of the Bayelsa State Council.

The suspended officials include Martins Adesanoye, Idoka John, Nnamdi Cosmos, Jacob Idakwo, Enemotimi Allen, Atonye Jonah, Kuro Peri-Ockiya and Tupere Diekedie.

Others are Gita Peremobowei, Okunobo Patrick Elliot, Celestine Ondyima, Mabel Tabowei, Matina Sokebolou and Dr Julius Laye.

Osifo stated that the affected persons are prohibited from carrying out any official functions within the congress for the duration of their suspension.

He added that they are barred from representing the TUC, attending its meetings or elections, or speaking on its behalf in any capacity.

He emphasised that discipline remains central to the union’s stability and urged members to respect the constitution and decisions of its organs while prioritising collective interest over personal ambitions.

The congress also cautioned stakeholders and the public against recognising the suspended officials as representatives of the TUC during the period of the sanction.
