Your Excellency and Distinguished Leaders,
I write with profound concern, outrage, and patriotic responsibility regarding the deeply troubling events that characterized the purported APC National Assembly Primaries conducted across Nasarawa State on 18th May, 2026. What transpired across the State was not a democratic primary election, but a tragic and coordinated assault on internal party democracy, transparency, fairness, and the collective will of APC members.
Across all Local Government Areas and electoral wards of Nasarawa State, thousands of loyal party members assembled peacefully from the early hours of the day in anticipation of participating in the exercise. Sadly, in many locations, electoral materials never arrived, while in others they were allegedly deliberately withheld until late into the night in what appeared to be a calculated effort to frustrate participation and create room for manipulation.
Even more disturbing were widespread reports that results were allegedly completed and winners declared in several constituencies where no lawful accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, or collation ever took place. Party members who waited endlessly without witnessing any legitimate electoral process were shocked to later discover that fictitious results had purportedly been entered and allocated to pre-determined aspirants.
These developments represent a grave violation of the APC Constitution, the partyβs Electoral Guidelines, and the democratic rights of party members.
Of equal concern are serious acts that sensitive electoral materials meant for the conduct of the primaries were diverted to private residences of government officials like the Deputy Governor of the state, Local Government Chairmen and undisclosed locations under the protection and active supervision of certain security operatives, especially the Police.
Β There are also disturbing incidences of collaboration between compromised political actors and elements within the Nasarawa State security architecture in the orchestration of these anti-democratic activities.
Additionally, several individuals allegedly deployed as Returning Officers and coordinators for the exercise were openly partisan political appointees of the state Governor, Local Government Chairmen and their known stooges, spouses of state party personnel,Β government loyalists,Β and associates of preferred aspirants.
Rather than acting as neutral umpires, they allegedly became active participants in a predetermined process designed to impose outcomes contrary to the wishes of party members.Β
Verifiable reports of intimidation, harassment, exclusion of voters, vote-buying, and the deployment of heavily armed security personnel, backed by strong video and pictorial evidence taken by persons who are willing to personally testify when the need arises, to suppress lawful participation have further worsened public outrage and undermined confidence in the credibility of the exercise.
Your Excellencies, while *President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu* has continued to work assiduously to strengthen democratic institutions and entrench the true tenets of participatory democracy across Nigeria, it is deeply unfortunate that certain elements at sub-national levels, many of whom never believed in his ideals and evidently and openly worked against his emergence during both the APC presidential primaries and the 2023 general elections, are now aggressively working to sabotage and make nonsense of these democratic efforts through impunity, manipulation, and abuse of state institutions.
What occurred in Nasarawa State threatens not only the unity and stability of the APC, but also public confidence in democratic governance itself, the general peace and security of the state. If internal democratic processes are brazenly subverted without accountability, the consequences for party cohesion, political stability, and the credibility of future elections may become severe.
In the interest of justice, peace, and the integrity of the APC, we respectfully call for:
1. Immediate cancellation of all purported results arising from areas where lawful primaries did not substantially hold.
2. A comprehensive investigation into allegations of fictitious declaration of results, diversion of electoral materials, and compromise of the electoral process.
3. Investigation and disciplinary action against all compromised Returning Officers, political actors, and security personnel found to have participated in the sabotage of the exercise.
4. Immediate removal of the Commissioner of Police of the state, under whose watch, his men were crassly compromised and used to sub ert the will of the people.
5. Redeployment and investigation of any security officials found to have acted in a partisan or unlawful manner.
6. The conduct of fresh, transparent, credible, and properly supervised primaries in affected constituencies.
7. Firm intervention by the national leadership of the APC and the Nigeria Police Force to restore confidence in democratic processes within Nasarawa State.
History will remember whether the leadership of our great party and relevant national institutions chose to defend democracy and justice or allowed impunity and political manipulation to define the future of internal democracy in Nasarawa State.
We trust that urgent, transparent, and principled action will be taken before the situation degenerates further and damages public confidence in democratic governance.
Please accept the assurances of my very humble and highest regards.
Hon. Makpa Malla. Esq.
Former member, Chief Whip/Spokesperson, Nasarawa State House of Assembly and a chieftain of the APC in Nasarawa State.
