Sahara Group Managing Director Kola Adesina will headline the 2026 Oriental News National Conference, set for July 23 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
The summit, organised by Oriental News Nigeria, will focus on “Carbon Capture: Accelerating Decarbonisation Initiatives in Nigeria’s Extractive Industry Through Broad Regulatory Reforms.”
The timing aligns with moves in the National Assembly to pass a National Decarbonisation Bill, building on the Climate Change Act 2021. The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has also released a Decarbonisation Blueprint and Handbook for the upstream sector.
Adesina, former Chairman of Egbin Power and current Board Chairman of Ikeja Electric, will share insights on fossil fuel emissions and Sahara Group’s net-zero strategy for 2060.
The strategy centres on a cleaner energy mix, operational efficiency, and nature-based solutions, including investments in natural gas as a transition fuel, renewable energy projects, and reforestation across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
The sub-theme will address finance challenges, investment strategies, operational sustainability, and climate change management.
Government officials, regulators, oil and gas operators, manufacturers, and financial institutions are expected to discuss Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan and recent regulatory developments. Topics include expanding renewables, cutting gas flaring, and advancing cleaner industrial processes.
Convener and Publisher Yemisi Izuora said the 5th edition aims to connect stakeholders in energy, finance, and industry to tackle practical challenges in decarbonisation.
The summit will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, and dialogues on carbon capture, utilisation and storage, low-carbon hydrogen, digital tools, and alternative fuels.
It will also examine regulatory frameworks, operator pathways, and financing gaps slowing progress toward Nigeria’s net-zero target.
The event runs from 9:30 a.m. at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Isaac John Street, Ikeja GRA.
