All Progressives Congress  National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda says the infighting in opposition parties proves the APC is not behind their troubles.

He spoke at the screening of governorship aspirants, where he said the recent defections to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, do not weaken the APC.

“Seventeen lawmakers can’t shake 400 lawmakers,” he said, mentioning the number of legislators who moved to the NDC.

He spoke on the NDC zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, saying the APC is not bothered .

He added: “Not at all. Why should we be afraid? The fight is not between APC and ADC or within our party, but ADC versus NDC.

“So we’ve been vindicated when people said APC was fighting the opposition. Now everybody sees it is the opposition fighting themselves.”

He said the APC remains dominant in by-elections, while the ADC and NDC have won none. He added that the PDP remains the main opposition but has also underperformed electorally.

He also spoke on why Rivers Governor Sim Fubara had not appeared for screening.

He said three governors — Rivers, Kwara, and Ebonyi — had yet to attend, and each had state duties to attend to.

“Any governor with issues to attend to, we excuse him. Governors are chief executives. Anytime you are free, call the screening committee, and we will screen you,” he said.

He added the APC has 31 governors and over 600 local government chairmen, and remains “the most prepared, most outstanding political party” ahead of 2027.
