August24news.com publisher Ajagbe Adeyemi Teslim has been named Media Personality of the Year_ by Go-Culture for pioneering online journalism on Lagos Island.
The award recognizes Ajagbe as the first media personality on Lagos Island to launch an online platform and for his contributions to media development in the area.
The maiden edition, called Celebrity Cup, honors individuals whose consistency and creativity have impacted the Lagos Island community. The ceremony held Saturday at Glover Memorial Hall, Tinubu, Lagos Island.
Go-Culture CEO Idris Iwalewa-Coker said the award is not a competition but a recognition of excellence.
“We want to change the narrative about Lagos Island,” Iwalewa-Coker said. “We’re telling the world that Lagos Island is great and blessed with professionals excelling in their fields, contrary to negative perceptions.”
Speaking after receiving the award, Ajagbe said: “I’m honored to be part of the 2026 Celebrity Cup. This shows the importance of our voice and the impact of our work. We won’t relent. We’re committed to moving Lagos Island forward. This is our home and our root.”
Ajagbe began his career at the defunct Island News, then moved to P.M. News as an entertainment reporter before joining National Mirror on the crime desk.
He launched http://August24news.com in 2010, becoming one of Nigeria’s early online journalism pioneers.
He is also the first online media personality in Lagos Island Local Government to be appointed by a sitting council chairman. He served as Special Assistant on Media and Digital Communications to Lagos Island East LCDA Chairman Muibi Alade Folawiyo.
Other awardees in the media category include Ola Muhammad of _Islanders Magazine_, Tawakalitu Adeniran of Kalite Media, and Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Media.
The event also honored content creators, bloggers, DJs, Afrobeats and Fuji artists, poets, hype men, MCs, photographers, filmmakers, dancers, fashion designers, caterers, and event promoters.
