The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has said Nigeria currently has sufficient aviation fuel reserves that will last for 74 days

In a statement on Friday, the agency’s Director of Public Affairs, George Ene-Ita, disclosed that inland stock accounts for 12 days of supply, while refinery reserves cover an additional 62 days, bringing total national sufficiency to over two months.

The agency emphasised that aviation fuel, like other petroleum products in the country, operates within a fully deregulated market where prices are determined by prevailing market forces rather than government controls.

The current ex-gantry price at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, it said, stands at N1,879 per litre, slightly below the international benchmark of about N1,900 per litre recorded in Lagos as of April 16, 2026.

It said that retail prices across the country currently range between N1,960 and N2,800 per litre.

It punctured reports suggesting that aviation fuel is selling at N3,300 per litre, noting that such claims do not reflect prevailing market conditions.

The agency assured that it will continue to monitor supply and pricing trends closely, in order to prevent shortages and curbing exploitative practices within the distribution chain.
