Sulaiman Yakubu Kulkude, a driver attached to the wife of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has been arraigned before a Kano Magistrate Court, over an alleged ₦60 million theft.

He was arraigned alongside Idris Musa and Abdullahi Usaini at the Magistrate court at Nomansland, on charges of criminal conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property.

Prosecuting counsel, Abubakar Ibrahim, said that the first defendant, who works as a driver to the Emir’s wife, “unlawfully entered her room and stole jewelry valued at ₦60 million, alongside cash and a mobile phone.”

He also told the court that the alleged act was carried out without consent, describing it as a serious breach of trust within the household.

Sulaiman pleaded guilty to the offence, while the second and third defendants denied any involvement.

Counsel to the defendants, A.A. Abdullahi, prayed the court to grant his clients bail, assuring that they would not interfere with the investigation.

In his ruling, the presiding magistrate, Halilu Abdurahman, granted bail in the sum of ₦10 million each, with conditions including the provision of a surety who must be either a father or brother and a civil servant not below Grade Level 15.

He ordered that the defendants should be remanded pending the fulfillment of the bail conditions.

The case was adjourned to April 14 for further mention.
